April Ross
April Ross, a beach volleyball star from America she is part of the elite number of women who received medals from more than one Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll try to net her third medal together with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross hopes to win more than her initial Olympic medal. The next chance she'll ever have to do so at the age of 39. She remains confident though that winning the gold medal is at hand. Ross has told NBC Boston that he believes if they play their top, or even an excellent game, we'll be in the running for gold. And then I'll also have some chance. Ross was born in 1982 and lived within Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began playing sports at Newport Harbor High School. Ross played in numerous sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. In addition to indoor volleyball, she played basketball and jogged track as an athlete in the pre-professional stage. She was evidently the best at the sport of indoor volleyball. According to her biography, she was a middle blocker and an outside hitter on the court of volleyball during her high-school career. To honor her effort she was honoured as one of the 1998 Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. In 2000, she was awarded her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in volleyball. Although Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight from 2017 onward, the former was already a big-time athlete on the beach even before the pair formed. It's true that she has played a significant role on the beach throughout the years. In fact, Ross took home several titles, and even one with a famous volleyball star. From 2007 until 2013, she was a team alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the world stage, claiming a 2009 world title together. The duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. They were eliminated for the gold by the storied team comprising Misty and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). It was fate that had them. Ross got Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. In 2016, the duo won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college player with the Trojans of USC prior to starting her professional career. She played in high school and before going to the beach for professional. Ross's Trojans experience was stellar. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA freshman of the year awards and was an All-American. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans reach the Final Four. After her sophomore year, she suffered a devastating personal loss, yet was successful in being named an All-American. The last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans up to the top of the mountain netting consecutive national championships. In her own way Ross established her status as a legend when she won the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This prize was awarded to the top female college player from the United States. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Sadly, Ross mother Margie didn't get to watch her daughter ascend to the most elite levels of beach volleyball fame. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore in USC her mother died of cancer of the breast. But, she will always remember her deceased parent close and close. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration to her at and off the beaches.
