Lucy Liu was born in the United States. Liu is an American singer, actress and voice actor. Being a smart and beautiful actress, she serves as a role-model for many Asian actors in Hollywood who want to succeed. Following a string of appearances in television shows that were popular, she became famous after being cast as a character in Ally McBeal legal comedy where she played Ling Woo. Following her popularity, she was offered important parts on the shows Shanghai Noon (1998) and Charlie's Angels (2000). Then, she gave an a stunning role in Quentin Tarantino Kill Bill Volume 1 as Japanese crime lord O Ren Ishii. In the same period she appeared in box office failures, including Rise: Blood Hunter. Then she began voicing famous characters in animated films, such as Kung Fu Panda and Tinker Bell. Mia Mason, in Cashmere Mafia and other small screen roles failed to bring her any kind of success. Southland was a critically-acclaimed crime-drama - established her as a leading actress. Liu selects her roles carefully to avoid becoming typecast in such a competitive field.
